.For Doctors
The best possible outcome for the patient involves a close working relationship between the doctor, ocularist and patient, with the doctor as the captain of the ship. Communication is vital to ensure that the desired patient outcome can be realized and achieved.
We are experienced in handling the most challenging cases. What makes us different is our background. We have received training that is only available as an apprentice in a family business that goes back to 1850. The art of fitting has been handed down for eight generations. There are no schools in the United States that teach this art of fitting. Fitting is learned one on one at the side of an experienced ocularist. It is hands-on with many hours over several years with the guidance of a Master Ocularist.
This isn't the only training we receive. The American Society of Ocularists which my Grandfather, Uncle and Father where founding members of the ASO also offers training. This involves, 10,000 hours of study over five years before becoming qualified by passing practical skills and written tests, then a test of your capabilities to make and fit a prosthesis was proctored by an Ophthalmologist. Outside testing is also done by an independent agency, the National Examining Board of Ocularists. To become a Board Certified Ocularist and keep this certification you are tested every 5 years and are required to have obtained continuing education credits..
We are Board Approved Diplomates of the ASO.
