For Patients
Care of Prosthesis
Your ocular prosthesis is an important investment in your health and appearance. You will be fully instructed in its care, with hands on teaching for care and handling of your prosthesis.
You will learn how to remove, clean, and insert your artificial eye, and will also receive a copy of “Recommended Care Guidelines for Your Artificial Eye,” written by Danz Inc for patient education.
Scleral Shell
The scleral shell fits over a small eye. Cases of microanophthalmia, congenital anophthalmia or trauma that causes the eye to shrink which leads to a loss of support of the lids can be corrected with a shell prosthesis. The shell moves with the eye giving it a very natural appearance.

This is also known as a reform prosthesis. It is thicker than the shell and fits over a surgical implant the ophthalmologist puts in place when he removes the natural eye.
